Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of hands-on healing that increases energy, reduces pain, produces deep relaxation, and a general feeling of well-being. It is listed as a CAM by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), an arm of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century and the word is generally translated as Universal Life Force energy. Rei means Universal or Spirit and Ki (or chi, qi) as life force energy.
Reiki, through the creation of deep relaxation, can help the body trigger its self-healing, create balance, and reduce the side effects of excessive stress, medications, or medical procedures.
Reiki works in conjunction with, and should never replace, your current medical care. If you have any questions, please consult your medical professional.
During a Reiki session, the client remains fully clothed and reclines on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner uses a series of 12-15 hand positions placed lightly upon (or held just above) the clients body. The client may feel tingling, warmth, cold, or a sense of pressure under the practitioner's hands. This is simply the transfer of the Reiki energy. There is no manipulation of the body in a Reiki session.
Reiki can easily be taught to anyone. Learn to do Reiki on yourself or others.
